A Brewing Miscalculation

There has always been a sector of the male gay community that parodied women.

Thinking, I suppose, that no woman ever leaves behind her seventh grade persona or her “mean girl” affectations. They giggle and swish and spin around in circles. They roll their eyes and fan themselves with juvenile flair. They squeal and talk like Valley Girls on Prom Night.

In the broad spread of the gay population, they are either hailed with a “You Go Girl” or looked upon with disdain. The first group is affirming, even encouraging of the behavior and the latter is embarrassed and just tries to ignore them. Every day in every part of your life, you probably encounter a gay man but you don’t know that you did because he isn’t flashy or attention seeking or striving to be the center of attention. But there is that minority sector that greatly irritates both women and gay men equally, it’s just nobody talks much about it.

When I moved to the D.C. area to take a job with an activist political organization, there was a Director of Communications on the staff of the organization. He was tall, quite good looking, funny, pleasant and brilliant. I was extraordinarily attracted to him. But seeing as how I was married, I didn’t let that be known. I found a couple months in that he was gay and frankly breathed a sigh of relief! I actually had a “Thank God he’s gay” moment. There was nothing about this man that signaled “gay.” He was that comfortable in his skin, he didn’t need to prove anything to anyone.

I watched him one day become irritated at a fellow staffer, an openly gay man who would make off-color comments to him thinking that since the two of them were gay, that was acceptable behavior. It wasn’t. He finally made it very clear that it was inappropriate conversation in the workplace. That he was not the fellow staffer’s compatriot in any way and he demanded decorum.

The problem we’re having with a society that parrots women as adolescent airheads and insists on stereotyping gay people, is that pigeon holing groups of people into dictated constructs ignores the vast variety of people in any group. It’s as bad as racism.

No one would accept characterizing people from the Middle East as terrorists. Or Blacks as criminals. Or Hispanics as ignorant. Or Asians as untrustworthy. No one. But we have giant corporations promoting a stereotype of what a woman is by hiring a man to show us. And it’s beyond ironic that some people don’t see a problem with that.

We have people at our highest levels of society and government paint us as “bigots” when we object to the insulting and hurtful images and behavior of someone who is the Rachel Dolezal of Transgenders.

“We’ve got to protect the Trans!”

Okay, but what about equal protection for women?

The great National Organization for Women (NOW), that fought so hard for Title IX protection for women’s sports, has thrown its hat in the ring to expand Title IX to Trans “women and girls.” It’s bizarre that nobody at NOW and hardly anyone in the modern feminists’ movement doesn’t see the gut wrenching irony of that.

Here’s their statement:

This statement is the manifesto for the end of feminism and the National Organization for Women.

In the vacuum, new feminists movements are springing up to protect women’s rights. “Adult Human Female” is one in Great Britain. “Fair Play for Women” and the “Fairness First” PAC have been formed in the U.S. As one would expect conservative women’s organizations are forming to fill the vacuum that NOW is leaving behind.

No one is saying that Trans Women can’t have their spaces, they are saying that Trans can’t push biological women out of the room and demand ownership of what was never theirs.

I also note that Trans Men are pretty much nowhere to be seen in any of this. I’ve concluded it points to a difference in brain chemistry between men and women. Men are aggressive creatures, women are nurturers. And it doesn’t matter how much estrogen or testosterone you pump into a person’s body, it won’t significantly change the brain chemistry.

Trans Men are not at the front of this fray because they, by and large, just want to go live their lives and be left alone. I’ve yet to see a Trans Man claim to be a better man than a biological man. Trans Women, on the other hand, still have that male aggressive brain and they are working diligently to redefine exactly what is a woman, if not erase her altogether.

The most important thing to do now is not remain silent. The incursion of Trans Women into biological women’s spaces has come about because a miniscule population has been very loud, quite aggressive and adept at using the language of radicalism to shut down any pushback. It’s time to speak up at the public schools, the city council and to your political representatives. Write, call, complain. Often.
